LIFE EUROBUSTARD at the Free Sky for Birds 2026 Conference
Dr. Rainer Raab, CEO of TB Raab, contributed to the programme both as a speaker and panelist. In his presentation, “Reclaiming the skies – a Cross-border Success: Recovery of the Great Bustard (Otis tarda) Population from Powerline Threats in the Pannonian Region,” he highlighted how coordinated cross-border conservation measures and powerline mitigation have contributed to the recovery of the Great Bustard population in the region.
Dr. Raab also participated in the panel discussion “When grids meet wings: A joint approach to bird-safe energy,” moderated by Brian McGowan (Scientias-Energy), where experts from the energy and research sectors discussed collaborative approaches to reducing bird collisions and improving biodiversity protection.
Another contribution from the TB Raab team came from Mabel Narh, who presented “Eyes on the sky: How a long-term Video-based Monitoring Project Improves Bird Protection Along Power Lines in Austria and Germany.” Her talk showcased how innovative video-based monitoring can provide valuable insights into bird behaviour and help guide effective mitigation measures.
We congratulate the conference organizers for their excellent work in bringing together such a diverse group of stakeholders and creating an important platform for dialogue and cooperation.
