COP15 Side Event Highlights Progress for Bustard Conservation

At CMS COP15 in Brazil, the side event “Bustard Multi-species Action Plan: a Global Framework for Coordinated Bustard Conservation” brought together international experts and stakeholders to address the urgent decline of bustard species worldwide.

The Bustard Multi-species Action Plan (MsAP), developed by the Bustards Without Borders consortium, was presented as a global, science-based framework covering all 26 species across 102 Range States. The plan has been submitted by Hungary for adoption at COP15, with a decision currently pending.

The session highlighted the importance of coordinated international action, knowledge exchange, and practical conservation measures.

Rainer Raab (TB Raab GmbH) contributed to the discussion by presenting the LIFE EUROBUSTARD project, showcasing concrete conservation actions and experiences from Europe that support broader global efforts.

The event reaffirmed that strong collaboration across countries and initiatives is key to ensuring a future for bustards.
