Biodiversity and the Energy Transition: Insights from KNE Conference 2026

The KNE-Conference 2026, organised by the Kompetenzzentrum Naturschutz und Energiewende (KNE) in Berlin, brought together experts from nature conservation, science, public administration and the renewable energy sector to discuss one of the most important challenges of our time: how to advance the energy transition while safeguarding biodiversity.

Under the theme “Wie geht es weiter mit dem Naturschutz in der Energiewende?” (“What is the future of nature conservation in the energy transition?”), participants explored topics including species protection, bird conservation at wind farms, collision prevention technologies and approaches to balancing climate and biodiversity goals.

These discussions are highly relevant to the objectives of LIFE EUROBUSTARD, which works to protect one of Europe’s most endangered bird species while supporting evidence-based conservation measures across the region.

We are pleased to see Dr. Rainer Raab, CEO of TB Raab and long-time Great Bustard conservation expert, featured in the official KNE Conference 2026 aftermovie. He appears between 00:28 and 00:35, reflecting the presence of conservation practitioners among the many stakeholders engaged in discussions about a nature-friendly energy transition.
